Our next store spotlight is a vibrant lifestyle store making a mark in the community: The Corner Booth

Sally Spiller took a leap of faith and went from working at The Corner Booth for a few years, to ownership of The Corner Booth, a much-loved local lifestyle store in Sydney's Annandale.

The Corner Booth

“It was an incredible opportunity to buy into a well-established and successful business and continue its legacy while making my mark and developing it into where it is today.”

This exciting undertaking has brought with it so much more than just business ownership. For Sally it has further developed a connection with the local community and given her the opportunity to delve deeper into understanding and working alongside several long-standing brands stocked in store.

The Corner Booth Shop

The Corner Booth is an independently owned lifestyle store situated in the heart of the Annandale village in Sydney Australia, brimming with global treasures and unique Australian designed products.

“We have a carefully curated collection of giftware, homewares, women's fashion, accessories, baby and kids’ gift, clothing and more.”

This curated collection has included Kollab for 8 years!

Picnic Mats

“Kollab beach bags and shopping essentials are a constant seller for us. But we did notice a new market a few years ago within the Kollab ranges with people spending more time outdoors (post pandemic) we saw the picnic products become a big hit (and fast)! “

If Corner Booth and Kollab have one thing in common, it’s a love of colour!

“We have always loved Kollab’s patterns and colour palettes, the products have always sat beautifully in store with some of our other key brands and we love that Kollab works alongside trends but also have their own aesthetic that is unique to them.”

Owning a business is not for the faint of heart. Balancing entrepreneurship with personal life can be challenging, especially as a working mum. Relying on staff and experts is a must, but having an understanding husband and kids is also pivotal.

“It’s a balancing act 24/7. One of the benefits of working for yourself is the investment of time and energy, it is for you and your family in the long-term.”

With a wealth of experience in the retail world, Sally has her eye on all the upcoming trends.

"At the moment we are loving the rich colours and patterns coming through and the mixing and matching of retro patterns.”

New Store Layout

With lots of innovation with materials and textures, Sally has also noticed a focus on brands creating products that stand the test of time.

“The push to eliminating single use plastic which we know is a big drawcard with Kollab products and it something we continue to embrace.”

These days it’s almost impossible to have a bricks and mortar store without some kind of online offering for customers. Corner Booth’s digital presence is as well maintained as their window displays. Sally is committed to keeping things interesting.

“Our digital presence is also a key factor in our overall success. We have customers all over Australia and globally buying online so we put a lot of effort into our website, socials and newsletters and it really works for us."

Shop Front Door

Working with a strong community aspect and a deep understanding of her customers, Sally has created a wonderful place to pop in and peruse.

“At the end of the day Knowing our core business and local business is also the cornerstone of the business, and in the tougher times going back to that, is what keeps the keel even. “
