As we raise our glasses to the last decade, we are immensely grateful for the unwavering support of our cherished stockists who have been integral to our journey from the outset. In this special series, 'Celebrating Connections', we invite you to join us in getting to know these amazing store owners, friends and creatives, while also unveiling a global map of where you can find Kollab's treasures and some of the best boutique stores around!
Established in 2016 by husband and wife team Kane and Matisse Barri. Gathered is a lifestyle and homewares store located in the energetic arts precinct of Bendigo.
This dynamic duo has a few things on the go.
“We have three kids, a dog and a needy bunny. We also own The Meadow a clothing store on the same street as Gathered in Bendigo.”
Their self-employed journey began in 2009 with the opening The Meadow.
“We loved bringing amazing brands to Bendigo as a multi brand clothing store boasting both local and international labels.”
After the success of The Meadow, they then opened Gathered in 2016.
“We saw a gap in the market in Bendigo for a cool lifestyle store that would be a beautiful place to find the perfect gifts for yourself or those you love.”
Trying to make work, work is aways a juggle, but with three kids in school this year, finding the balance is proving a little easier.
“Having those school hours to do all that needs doing but still being able to be present at school events and sporting things is the best part of owning your own business I think.”
Finding time to yourself as a small business owner is no easy task! Matisse slots in self-care when she can.
“I love a long walk with the dog and a good podcast, so I do try and do this every morning after school drop off before I begin my work day. I find it gets me in a good headspace to switch from home life to work life. It’s also time to plan my day out.”
Living and working in beautiful Bendigo definitely has it’s perks.
“It’s a large enough place to not know everybody but small enough for the local coffee shop to remember your order. The bush walks around Bendigo are beautiful and I think a little bit of a hidden gem. All the main touristy things are advertised everywhere but it’s the locals you need to ask about the good walks.”
Gathered has been a stockist of Kollab for many years and still remembers the OG Lunch Bag, but now can’t go past a Picnic Mat!
“I think these are the ultimate present for those hard to buy for. Absolutely everyone who owns one will use it way more than you expect. They are so versatile and handy.
She also has a little tip for those with babies.
“In the warmer months put your picnic mat out on the lawn lather it with dishwashing liquid and let the kids use it as a slippery dip. A fun and effective way to give your mat a clean.”
Staying inspired throughout their business journey has kept Gathered ahead of the curve.
“We love to travel and explore new places. Our eyes are always on the lookout for new things. We are also very lucky having been in the business for a while that we have some incredible designers approach us now wanting to work together.”
Keeping things fresh in store is a must in this ever-changing retail climate.
“Visual merchandising is a huge part of our brand, so we do weekly display changes throughout the whole store. The shop looks different and amazing every time a customer comes in, whether they are a regular or just passing through.”
